OfO is delighted to announce that a new series of 8 films is now available to view on our YouTube channel. Produced in partnership with the Royal College of Organists, with generous support from the Betts Fund at Oxford University, the series is entitled A Guide to Organ Scholarships: what to consider and how to prepare. The films are supported by a written document which can be found on the OfO and RCO websites, which gives lots of ideas for further study and textbooks.

The individual films are:

1. Introduction
2. What is an Organ Scholarship?
3. Keyboard Skills
4. Registration
5. Improvisation
6. The Cambridge Aural Test
7. Practice
8. You've been awarded a scholarship: what happens now?

It’s worth noting that the skills explored in these films are relevant not just to those considering an organ scholarship at university, but also to those who might be seeking an organ scholarship in a gap year, or alongside a place at a conservatoire. We hope that they will help inform students and teachers of the necessary skills and standards needed to gain and hold an organ scholarship successfully. And even if you aren’t sure that an organ scholarship is for you, there is still a great deal of helpful advice for any organist looking to build his or her skills. Take a look and do email us here at OfO with any questions!
